Two children reported injured
Two children were treated at University Medical Center Tuesday night for minor smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in their Las Vegas home.
The cause of the blaze in the house in the 1300 block of Nye Street, near Rancho and Vegas drives, is under investigation, fire officials said.
Fire officials called Metro Police to the scene after getting conflicting stories of whether there was an adult home at the time of the fire.
The two children, a 10-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, were treated and released into Metro custody about 11:30 p.m., hospital officials said.
Firefighters were called to the one-story house about 8:30 p.m. The fire caused extensive damage to the rear of the home and heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the house, fire officials said.
Unemployment checks turn up
CARSON CITY -- Hundreds and possibly thousands of unemployment checks that have been missing in the mail have turned up in Las Vegas, and delivery started Tuesday.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Tuesday it has been informed by the U.S. Postal Service that the checks were discovered in Las Vegas. They had been mailed Oct. 31 from Carson City.
The department estimated the number of checks at between 400 and 2,000.
