Scouts prepare for door-to-door event
Boy Scouts from the Boulder Dam Area Council will distribute food collection bags to homes throughout the community beginning Monday in their annual Scouting for Food drive.
Filled bags will be collected Nov. 18. The food collected will be distributed to local food banks. For more information, call 736-4366.
Paper cars, TV and popcorn on tap
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is offering "Design Your Drive-In," a program for young people ages 6 to 11, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. Enrollment is $12, which includes supplies and lunch.
The recreation center will be transformed into a drive-in with a big screen television, a favorite movie and hot buttered popcorn. Participants will design their own "cars" using cardboard, glue and paper.
When the cars are complete, the youths will watch the movie from inside.

Celebration planned Saturday at Orleans
A celebration of the 225th birthday of the Marine Corps will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at the Orleans hotel-casino.
Dress is formal or semiformal with jacket. The guest speaker will be Marine Lt. Gen. George R. Christmas.
Tickets will be available at the door or at the Marine Corps League, 4360 W. Spring Mountain Road. For more information, call 368-1775.
Children's event set for Sunset Park
A children's fishing derby will be held Saturday at Sunset Park Lake, which recently underwent a remodeling at a cost of more than $1 million.
The event will allow children between the ages of 1 and 17 to enjoy the refurbished lake. The event is free. For more information, call 455-8161.
Obesity to be subject of program Saturday
A national display called "Pants Across America," to bring attention to the health problem of morbid obesity, comes to Nevada 7-10 p.m. Saturday at 2040 W. Charleston Blvd., adjacent to University Medical Center.
The event is free and open to all bariatric patients and their families.
Dr. Barry Fisher will discuss gastric bypass surgery. His surgery reduces the stomach to a pouch that holds 1 to 2 ounces of food and has proven to be one of the most successful and safest of bariatric procedures resulting in substantial weight loss sustained for over 10 years.
