State Farm cuts Nevada rates

CARSON CITY -- State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. will reduce homeowner insurance rates by a statewide average of 2.6 percent starting next month for new business and in January for renewals.
State Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman said Monday the company writes 90,112 policies for homeowners in Nevada. At the same time, the firm filed a request to boost insurance rates by an average of 3.9 percent for manufactured homes in the state. It covers about 6,500 of these units.
Most policy owners probably won't see any change in their rates. But some could go up 10 percent, even though the statewide average is a reduction of 2.6 percent, as State Farm changes its rate structure.
