Henderson council to consider project for seniors housing

The Henderson City Council will consider a proposal tonight to locate low-income senior apartments in the McCollough Hills Planning Area, a proposal rejected by the city's planning commissioners last month.
Property owners concerned about property values and traffic congestion objected to Pacific West Builders Inc.'s plan to rezone 9.3 acres southwest of the intersection of Gibson Road and Las Palmas Entrada Avenue to accommodate the 205-unit complex.
Planning commissioners denied the request, citing the obtrusiveness of the three-story buildings on surrounding residential buildings and inadequate parking.
Though members of the city's planning department argued for the project, saying it would meet all land-use criteria and code requirements, a petition garnering more than 100 names was submitted opposing the plan.
Monthly rent at the complex would range from $253 to $667, based upon the income of the applicant.
The council is also expected to approve an application from Joseph Prestipino for a 4.7-acre commercial development on the southwest corner of Horizon Ridge Parkway and Valare Street in the McCullough Hills Planning Area.
