High school teacher pleads guilty

A Clark High School teacher accused of sexual misconduct involving several students took a deal Monday.

David James Pechacek, 31, pleaded guilty to sexual conduct between a person in a position of authority and a student and open and gross lewdness.

Pechacek faces up to a year in prison on the lewdness charge and up to five years on the sexual conduct count when he's sentenced Jan. 3.

Pechacek was charged with engaging in sexual conduct with multiple male students on multiple occasions since the fall of 1999.

Judge postpones Del Papa case

A judge postponed Monday a hearing to determine whether a lawsuit against Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa should be dismissed.

Judge James Mahan said Monday he would allow attorneys for Mike Anzalone to interview defendants in the case who are seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed before ruling on the motion. The hearing was tentatively rescheduled for Dec. 4.

Anzalone, a former assistant attorney general, filed the lawsuit against Del Papa and others in her office two years ago, alleging he was forced to resign after refusing to investigate former state Gaming Control Board member Bill Bible.

According to Anzalone's attorney, Del Papa had a "personal vendetta" against Bible because he questioned the quality of legal services the Control Board received from her office.

The lawsuit also accuses attorney general investigators J.T. Healy and Ron Wheatley of defamation and slander. It also accuses Deputy Attorney General Donald Haight of wrongful termination and deprivation of rights.

LV man accepts prosecution deal

A Las Vegas man arrested in August in connection with a fatal shooting will be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison after accepting a deal from prosecutors.

Although he did not admit his guilt, Eric Alido agreed Monday that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him of voluntary manslaughter in Arnold Pastor's death.

Had Alido not taken the deal, he could have been convicted of second-degree murder and received a life sentence.

According to police, Pastor was shot while drinking with Alido and another man at his house.

Police say Pastor was found with a gunshot wound in his head, and Alido kidnapped the third man and forced him to drive him to the home of relatives in Southern California.

The relatives convinced Alido to give himself up.

Alido is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5 by District Judge Joseph Bonaventure.

Dees awarded restraining order

Rick Dees, a local radio personality who sued to stop a Las Vegas man from sending him death threats, has won a temporary restraining order that stops the man from being within 1,000 feet of Dees.

In a Clark County District Court lawsuit, Dees, the host of a morning show on KFMS 101.9-FM, sued Michael Lee Williams.

Dees alleged Williams sent e-mails starting Oct. 12 that allegedly contained vulgar and bizarre language including "promises that (Williams) would strap a bomb to himself and blow himself up in Dees' presence and threats against Dees' life and those working in his presence."

The defendant could not be reached.
