Ben Walker of Valencia, Calif., won the 140-lap main event at the 10th annual StarNursery.com Late Model Classic at The Bullring Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Walker led the majority of the 70-lap twin main event, but was spun out with less than 20 laps to go. Mike Duncan, the Mesa Marin Late Model champion, took over the lead but he spun out on the second to last lap.
The 19-year-old Walker was then able to pass Duncan and lead the final lap to secure the checkered flag. "It was hectic at the end," Walker said. "Just as soon as I was getting comfortable I got spun out. But I came back in the end."
Walker was awarded the $5,000 purse along with $1,500 for leading the cars into the mandatory pit stop at the 70-lap halfway mark.
Second place was taken by Jason Allen of Las Vegas. Allen started the main event in fifth place.
The 70-lap twin main event was made up of 26 drivers. The 20 fastest drivers along with the top three drivers in two heat races were combined.
