Reno gets whiff of Tahoe smoke
Monday, Nov. 6, 2000 | 4:52 a.m.
California Department of Forestry officials said the smoke was believed to be coming from a burn at Sawtooth Mountain northwest of Reno.
In a related development, federal land managers have announced plans for two more prescribed burns in the region if weather conditions permit.
The Bureau of Land Management plans a 34-acre prescribed burn Tuesday and Wednesday near Turtle Rock County Park four miles north of Markleeville, Calif.
And the U.S. Forest Service plans a 20-acre prescribed burn sometime in mid-November in the Dog Valley area 11 miles west of Reno.
Both projects are designed to reduce the fire hazard by removing forest fuels.
