Nevada is normally an afterthought in presidential contests, but its four electoral votes will carry weight in Tuesday's general election, thanks to the cliff-hanger between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George W. Bush.

Letter: Do we want religious right making rules?
You are absolutely correct! I am a retired obstetrician-gynecologist and certainly do not wish to see a return to the horrors of illegal abortions before Roe v. Wade.

Letter: Give Bush, Gore lie detector tests
If, while speaking live, the candidates were hooked up to lie detectors, with the results of truths and lies shown on screen, we might expect candor, integrity and nothing but the truth. We might.

Columnist Trude B. Feldman: Gore hopes to further peace in Middle East
Albert Gore Jr. was born six weeks before the modern State of Israel was established in May 1948. In 1998, when both Gore and Israel turned 50, the vice president was in the Jewish state for its golden jubilee. And throughout his professional life, Gore has shown unwavering concern for Israel's welfare.

Letter: GOP ticket is anti-Nevada
One of these governors is Nevada's own Kenny Guinn. How can Guinn justify campaigning for a candidate who will definitely vote to dump the nuclear waste in our state? This should concern every resident in Nevada as it will affect all of us.
Columnist Kate Maddox: Troubled Aleman not producing
A little-known story regarding "Crazy Girls" and "La Cage" producer Norbert Aleman is that he's no longer producer of either show. Aleman, the subject of complaints by three female employees of the Riv, reportedly lost his ownership and producing rights of both shows in a divorce settlement four years ago.
Columnist Jon Ralston: Close races, confident predictions
IT'S NOT EVEN accurate to call what resides below predictions. That presupposes the outcomes of these races will be determined Tuesday when, thanks to the insanity of early voting, most of them are already over. By the time you read this more than 150,000 people will have cast early ballots in Clark County -- add in absentees and half of the Southern Nevada electorate already has cast ballots by now.

Letter: Bush is more prepared than Clinton was
Clinton became president although he was only the governor of the small state of Arkansas. In his first race for governor of the big state of Texas, Bush went against an experienced and aggressive Democrat and won. Outside critics deride his Texas record, but who better to judge him than his constituents? In his re-election bid, he won overwhelmingly!
Letter: Freedom cry belies stance
Our only choice is to accept limitation or punishment. Only in Natural Law are we free, and Natural Law, obviously, chooses birth, not abortion.
Letter: A balance of power at stake
Given the unprecedented prosperity of the Clinton-Gore years, why would we risk our prosperity on an unknown quantity such as George W. Bush? Why would seniors risk Social Security and Medicare, which Bush has pledged to change? Why would women be willing to risk the fact that Bush would likely appoint two or three justices to the Supreme Court and take away the right of women for privacy of their own wombs?
