Las Vegas Sands Inc. Chairman Sheldon Adelson received the "Bartels Distinguished Fellowship" award Thursday from the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn.
The fellowship, presented twice annually, is designed "to bring persons of regional and national stature in business and public service to the UNH campus." It was established in 1989 through an endowment by Henry Bartels, a member of the university's board of governors.
Adelson spent Thursday at the university in meetings with university administrators and faculty members, and delivered an address to students titled "Challenging the Status Quo." Adelson, developer of the Venetian megaresort, is frequently at odds with Las Vegas institutions like the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the Culinary Union.
