Letter: Outlaws miss out on locals
Friday, Nov. 3, 2000 | 11:26 a.m.
I enjoyed Dean Juipe's column on the XFL Draft (" 'Who's He?' fans reply to XFL draft," Oct. 31). I am a local agent who lives in Las Vegas. Most of my clients are local players who attended high school here, and I attended some of the Outlaws' tryouts.
I am not being biased by saying that the players they drafted are not going to become good players. But I think the local kids that I have would have done well, also.
These include: Derek Poole, a running back who rushed for more than 1,200 yards his senior year at Weber State; Ron Merkerson, a Colorado linebacker who was the last cut in New Orleans Saints' camp; and Antuwn Carter, the leading rusher in University of Arizona history.
There is some good local talent they missed out on.
