Letter: A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush

Had John McCain been the Republican nominee, I might have been less worried. Though I disagree with most of his philosophy, he has demonstrated that he values the lives of people over huge profits when he supported the bill to track auto accidents for the early detection of defects. Of course Trent Lott and the boys killed that idea.
George Bush, on the other hand, was able to defeat McCain because Bush was willing to pander to the prejudices of Bob Jones University. It is obvious from his record in this situation and in others that Bush is willing to sell out to prejudice if necessary to get what he wants.
Who will think and be the moral guide for Bush? Will it be Dick Cheney, whose votes on civil rights are abysmal?
I respect the candidacy of Ralph Nader and believe he speaks for what is best for America. The Democrats have moved so far right in recent years they might be called Demopublicans.
Yet Al Gore is the only viable hope to be there when appointments must be made to secure our freedoms. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush.
I fear for the future of our two granddaughters. It is their future which will be sacrificed. This seems like some kind of Greek tragedy. While a well-intentioned vote for Nader may make an important statement, it will elect Bush. I hear a Cassandra saying, "Don't go there; you will eat your children!"
