Carpenters complaint against hotel dismissed

The National Labor Relations Board has denied the Carpenters Union's request to force the Mirage hotel-casino to recognize the union.
The Southern California-Nevada Regional Council of Carpenters filed a charge on Sep. 12 against the Mirage, alleging it refused to recognize and bargain with the union, which wanted to represent the hotel-casino's full-time in-house maintenance carpenters and upholsterers.
But the NLRB refused to issue a complaint because it found the Carpenters are not proposing an appropriate bargaining unit.
"The Carpenters and upholsterers do not have a community of interest such that they should be included in a single unit of both groups or as separate units," said Stephen Wamser, the NLRB's deputy regional attorney.
