CARSON CITY -- An election hoax against Democrats is circulating in Clark County.
Secretary of State Dean Heller said Wednesday an e-mail message is requesting Clark County Democrats to vote on Nov. 8, the day after the election. The e-mail falsely identifies itself as coming from the Clark County registrar of voters.
It says the polling places may be unable to handle a larger than previously expected turnout and asks Republicans to cast ballots on Nov. 7 and Democrats to vote the day following the general election.
"Many voters may find this e-mail amusing, but I must reiterate that election day is Nov. 7," Heller said. "I do not want any voters to miss their opportunity to cast a ballot due to a bad joke."
Heller called it a prank and said it is unknown how widely the e-mail has been distributed.
Susan Morandi, deputy secretary of state for elections, said she has contacted the state Division of Investigations to see what can be done.
