Metro Police homicide detectives are searching this morning for two -- possibly three -- men in connection with the shooting death of a Las Vegas man Wednesday night in a shopping center parking lot during an apparent carjacking.
Police arrived at the shopping center on the southeast corner of the intersection of Bonanza Road and Eastern Avenue about 7 p.m. and found 28-year-old Daniel Saucedo dead from apparent gunshot wounds, police said.
Saucedo was found in the parking lot near a check-cashing business at 550 N. Eastern Ave., police said.
"There was some kind of confrontation between the victim and two of the suspects, and the victim was shot," Lt. Wayne Petersen said.
Witnesses told police that Saucedo had parked in the parking lot and went into the check-cashing business, and upon returning to his car he was confronted by two men and shot. One of the men took the 1988 Chevrolet Caprice, and the second ran from the scene and may have gotten into a Ford Tempo seen leaving the area, Petersen said.
The car, which belonged to a friend of Saucedo, was found about 11 p.m. near Washington Avenue and Virgil Street, police said.
Saucedo's death is the 84th homicide so far this year in Metro's jurisdiction, compared with 93 at the same time last year.
Anyone with information on this homicide is asked to call detectives at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
