Air Force upsets UNLV women in MWC soccer

Fifth-seeded Air Force (6-13-1) upset No. 4 UNLV (11-9-0) 4-1 in a quarterfinal match of the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship Wednesday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Falcons advanced to the semifinals with the win and will face top-seeded Brigham Young today at 7 p.m.
The Rebels took a 1-0 lead after freshman Lee Tania scored at the 10:53 mark of the first half. The Falcons evened the match on Jennie Schoeck's goal in the 39th minute.
Schoeck scored the go-ahead and winning goal off a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Beth Boyer scored two more goals in less than six minutes late in the game to secure the win for the Falcons.
Earlier in the tournament, No. 3 seed San Diego State (8-12) defeated No. 6 New Mexico (7-12) 3-0 and second-seeded Utah (12-6-1) routed Wyoming (7-11-1) 4-0. The Aztecs and Utah play at 4:30 p.m. today.
