Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000 | 11:20 a.m.
The UNLV women's soccer team will be hoping to parlay the home field advantage into a strong showing in the Mountain West Conference tournament which gets under way today at Peter Johann Field on the UNLV campus.
The Rebels, seeded fourth in the seven-team event, will meet No. 5 Air Force at 7 p.m. in the last of three first-round games. Third-seeded San Diego State was scheduled to face No. 6 New Mexico and No. 2 Utah was to meet No. 7 Wyoming in other matches today.
Top-seeded Brigham Young received a first-round bye and will meet the UNLV-Air Force winner at 7 p.m. Friday. The championship match is set for noon on Saturday.
The Rebels, 11-8, will be seeking their second straight victory over Air Force (5-13-1), having handled the Falcon women 3-1 here earlier this season. UNLV also will have the revenge factor on its side as it was Air Force which eliminated the Rebel women from last year's MWC tourney by a 5-2 score.
