Henderson fugitive arrested in Vegas

A man on Henderson's most wanted list was arrested Tuesday by the Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Team.

Charles Nathan Price, 25, was arrested in the 5000 block of Cameron Street in Las Vegas about 9:30 a.m. and was charged with three counts of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl and two counts of lewdness with a minor under the age of 14.

Price was later booked into the Henderson Detention Center. He had been on the city's top five most wanted list, police said.

The Criminal Apprehension Team is a multijurisdictional fugitive task force for Southern Nevada.

Beating victim was LV man

A 40-year-old Las Vegas man who died Monday at University Medical Center has been identified as Carlos Romero.

Romero suffered injuries after receiving a severe beating from a group of men on Oct. 21.

A witness told police several men were hitting and kicking Romero while he was on the ground. He was found unconscious about 1 a.m. in the 400 block of West Washington Avenue, Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro's Police homicide unit said.

State forester in final year

CARSON CITY -- State Forester Roy Trenoweth announced today he will retire on Dec. 31, ending 27 years with state government.

Trenoweth has been the forester-fire warden since 1992 in the agency responsible for managing the forests and watersheds as well as preventing and fighting fires on state lands. The division is also involved in prison work crews who help in forestry work.

The agency has an annual budget of more than $20 million and has grown by more than 200 employees since Trenoweth took over the top job.

Gov. Kenny Guinn praised the work of Trenoweth. "Roy has proven himself an effective and dedicated forester and the state has been very fortunate to have him."

No replacement was named immediately for the $76,000 a year job.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman

will host a town meeting Nov. 16 to discuss issues of concern to the disabled. The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the NAH Center, 6200 W. Oakey Blvd., west of Jones Boulevard. This is the first of several town hall meetings the mayor plans with various community interest groups.

Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center

opens its new emergency room facility at 10 a.m. Thursday. The new facility will be one of the largest emergency services department in the state with 78,000 square feet, 50 beds and 22 pediatric beds. Sunrise's old emergency room had 37 adult beds and eight beds for children. In addition, rooms will be private and have televisions and phones.

In anticipation of the Thanksgiving travel rush,

two new tram cars will be installed to carry travelers from the D gates to the main terminal at McCarran International Airport. Installation of the trams will begin Monday and when completed will carry 1,200 people per hour. Each one can carry about 60 passengers with baggage. Some delays may be experienced during the installation.
