The city of Henderson has been named in a lawsuit that alleges a communications operator in the Henderson Police Department was punished because she complained to her superiors that she was the victim of sexual harassment.
Jennifer Knopp filed the lawsuit in District Court on Oct. 12 -- seven days after being placed on administrative leave and 10 months after she first reported the harassment.
The suit, which alleges communications administrator Sandy Waide harassed Knopp routinely after she filed her sexual harassment complaint, is currently being reviewed by the city attorney's office.
Henderson Police Chief Mike Mayberry said he was familiar with the lawsuit but could not comment on pending litigation.
Knopp's lawsuit alleges she complained to the city's director of human resources about possible retaliation four months after she first alerted Waide to her concerns. But in July 2000 Human Resources Director Daryl Moore reporting finding no evidence of retaliation.
Knopp, placed on administrative leave on Oct. 5, alleges she is now under the care of a mental health professional for stress and anxiety resulting from the experience.
