A Henderson man who lost his wife when she was hit by a car while working as a crossing guard last November died of natural causes last week.
Sebastian and Shirley Rizzo were married 42 years ago, and both started working as crossing guards in Henderson about seven years ago.
Shirley Rizzo was assigned to the intersection at Wigwam Avenue and Valle Verde Drive near Greenspun Junior High School, while Sebastian was a couple of blocks away guarding the intersection of Wigwam and Legacy Drive near Selma Bartlett Elementary School.
On Nov. 23 Shirley Rizzo was hit from behind by a Ford Mustang driven by a 16-year-old girl, Henderson Police said. The accident shattered Rizzo's spinal cord, and her family decided to disconnect life support in early January.
Katharyn Dickinson, 16, will be tried on charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving on June 13 in Shirley Rizzo's death.
Services were held for Sebastian Rizzo in Long Beach, Calif., where he was buried with his wife.
