Rawson honored at med school graduation

The University of Nevada School of Medicine recently recognized a local legislator and several students during its commencement.
State Sen. Ray Rawson, R-Las Vegas, received the University of Nevada School of Medicine Dean's Award during the ceremonies.
Rawson, a Las Vegas dentist and director of the dentistry program at the Community College of Southern Nevada, was selected by Dean Robert Miller for his consistent commitment to supporting the medical school.
Rawson's son Blaine graduated from the medical school in 1999.
Several of the 17 Las Vegas students who graduated from the medical school received special honors.
David Miller was named outstanding student in rural health and chosen for the Dean's Award as the top student academically.
Other outstanding students included Kami King Larsen, internal medicine; Nerissa Lolita San Luis, special qualifications in nutrition; Ryan Eric Dobbs, surgery.
San Luis also received the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation for highest academic achievement along with Trina Stelljes and Victoria Wall.
Two doctors also were recognized. The outstanding Las Vegas community teaching physician award went to Dr. Carmelo Herrero, while the outstanding resident award went to Dr. Warren Volker.
