Lied donation to help CCSN baseball program

Tuesday, May 30, 2000 | 10:04 a.m.

Using a $700,000 donation by the Lied Foundation Trust, the Community College of Southern Nevada plans to complete the school's baseball complex on the Henderson campus.

School officials say the money will go toward a 1,000-seat lighted stadium with a press box, concession stands and public restrooms.

Also included will be a fieldhouse with player locker rooms, an academic hall and coaches offices.

The Lied donation places CCSN "shoulder to shoulder with name universities that have been recipients of Lied's philanthropy," CCSN athletic director Mike Meyer said.

The donation combined with $600,000 contributed from the Associated Students of CCSN, the city of Henderson and several other private donors will turn Coyote Park into one of the best junior college baseball facilities in America, Meyer added.

This was the first season for the CCSN Coyotes men's baseball team -- Nevada's first community college intercollegiate athletic program.

School officials expect practice facilities to be complete in time for fall practice and the team's 2001 season.

A printing company, Berlin Industries, announced it will donate 200 trees to the stadium.
