Rio faces fine for currency violation

The Nevada Gaming Control Board filed a three-count complaint against the Rio Suites hotel-casino Thursday, alleging the casino failed to follow state gaming regulations dealing with money transactions.
The alleged violation occurred in March, when an undercover agent of the board deposited $4,200 in cash at the Rio's cashier cage, all in $20 bills. When the agent withdrew the money two days later, the board alleges the cashier gave the agent her funds in $100 bills. Under Nevada gaming regulations, all casino deposits in excess of $3,000 must be returned in the same denomination bills -- a measure designed to protect against money laundering.
