Spring training talks postponed

Try, try, again.
That's the motto for Las Vegas Stars president and general manager Don Logan after attempts failed this week to get representatives of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers to sit down for a second time to go over a proposal to build a spring training complex in southwest Las Vegas.
"We couldn't get everybody on the same page," Logan said on Wednesday night. "They were in town for the International Council of Shopping Centers convention because they both are interested in building shopping malls by their stadiums. So that took up the majority of their time."
Logan left this morning for a five-day vacation in Puerto Rico.
"We'll probably have a conference call then to try and set something up," Logan said.
Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is expected to sign a bill into effect next week which would allocate almost $8 million per year to upgrade spring training facilities in that state. The Dodgers would likely get a major portion of that money to perform badly needed upgrades at legendary Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
Logan, who hopes to bring at least four major league teams here in time for spring training in 2002, said he is not concerned about the bill.
"That still doesn't give them any more people in the seats," he said. "Sagging attendance has been one of the biggest problems down there."
