Senior-dominated Oregon built a one-shot lead over Texas and Georgia while defending national champion and top-ranked Duke -- along with former Las Vegas prep standouts Stephanie Keever and Christina Monteiro -- faltered in the opening round of the NCAA women's golf championships Wednesday in Sunriver, Ore.
Keever, the former Cimarron-Memorial ace playing for Stanford, shot a 4-over 76 and stands tied for 44th place. Bonanza High product Monteiro had a 5-over 77 playing for Arizona and is tied for 61st place.
Playing in a breeze and under mostly blue skies at the 6,482-yard Crosswater Club golf course, Oregon carded a 7-over-par 295 to take the lead with three rounds left to play.
Pam Sowden led the Ducks with an even-par 72, while teammates Anika Heuser had a 73 and Jerilyn White, the only junior on the team, and Angie Rizzo shot 75s.
Texas, which didn't have a player in the top 10, and Georgia were at 296, followed by Purdue and Ohio State (298s), Arizona (299), Tennessee (301), Stanford (301), Pepperdine (302) and Auburn (302).
In the individual race, Tulsa's Stacy Parmmanasudh fired a 69 to take a one-shot lead over Oklahoma State's Maria Boden.
