War memorabilia will be exhibited

Nevada's first veterans center and museum will open at 2 p.m. Sunday with memorabilia from World Wars I and II and the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf wars.

The museum is located at 3333 Cambridge St., near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road.

Special exhibits include a POW/MIA room, uniforms and medals.

Boulder City to hold workshop

The Boulder City Recreation Department is holding a stress management workshop 10 a.m. June 3 at ABC Park, 801 Adams Blvd.

The workshop, for those 14 and older, will focus on deep relaxation techniques. Cost is $30 and pre-registration is required. For more information, call at 293-9256.

High-speed services debated

The Las Vegas PC Users Group is sponsoring a debate among two competing high speed Internet connection services -- Cox Communications for cable modems and Sprint for DSL, a phone line connection.

Representatives of the two companies will present their cases at 6:15 p.m. June 7 at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 263-5910.

Amateur radio

Evolution vs. creation

A lecture, "Evolution, Creation and the First Amendment" will be held 7 p.m. June 2 at Borders Book Store, 2323 S. Decatur Blvd. The speaker will be attorney Tim Beazley.

Death Valley rangers lauded for actions

Six National Park Service rangers received awards recently for their roles in the pursuit and ultimate capture on March 12 of heavily armed suspects at Death Valley National Park.

Receiving Exemplary Act awards from National Park Service Director Robert Stanton were: Chief Ranger Dale J. Antonich, Assistant Chief Ranger Tim Simonds and Rangers Paul Crawford, Kevin Hendricks, Wayne Weigand and Willie Lopez.

Meadows School students win honors

Third grade students at the Meadows School placed first in the nation in Mathfax, a national math competition among nearly 1,300 schools.

Meadows fourth grade students placed second, and fifth graders took third.

Meadows students Kevin Kowalski, fourth grade, and Dean Beckwith, third grade, both finished first in the contest, while Meadows third grader Trevor Sheer was second.
