Stars halt losing streak vs. Calgary

CALGARY -- The Las Vegas Stars, thanks to the seven-hit pitching of right-handers Rodrigo Lopez and Vicente Palacios, snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Cannons on Sunday afternoon at Burns Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Stars (23-17) finally found a way to score some runs off Calgary starter Jason Grilli (1-4).
Grilli had allowed just one earned run in 11 innings in his two previous outings this year against Las Vegas.
But the Stars doubled that total in the first two innings on Sunday afternoon thanks to catcher Ben Davis' first-inning RBI single and Mike Darr's sacrifice fly in the second which drove in second baseman David Newhan, who opened the inning with a double.
The teams concluded their series with a rare Monday day game today. The Stars open a five-game series at Edmonton Tuesday.
