Las Vegas air travel numbers up again

Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport posted another month of double-digit increases in its passenger count in April, with figures up 10.6 percent over April 1999.

The airport reported 3.1 million arriving and departing passengers last month, up from 2.8 million for the same month in 1999.

The passenger count is up 10 percent for the year, 11.9 million for the first four months of 2000 compared to 10.8 million for the same period in 1999. Tourists are traveling to the gambling mecca in record numbers to visit new casino resorts, shop and dine.

Southwest Airline led the carriers with a 10.6 percent increase, handling 840,00 passengers for the month of April. America West ranked second with 438,000 passengers, up 2.1 percent.
