Letter: Terrible driving plagues Las Vegas

Wednesday, May 17, 2000 | 9:17 a.m.

1. We should have the turn-signal levers removed because they are never or rarely used.

2. Don't bother to have red light or stop signs, for they are ignored. I believe you could call many of the stops sushi stop -- just glide on through and red means less than orange, drive like h--- so you can make the next red light and have to stop.

3. When vehicles and their drivers do stop they ride right up on your rear bumper. If the third or fourth vehicle fails to stop you have a multiple collision.

4. I don't know where everyone is going or why they seem to ignore the speed limit, but if everyone would start out 10 to 15 minutes early there would be no reason for the excessive speed. By the way, I notice, too, that flashing orange or posted school zones mean nothing to these drivers.

5. The smog check which we all must pass to receive license plates must be nonexistent. The number of vehicles emitting blue and black exhaust is tremendous.

6. A great deal of revenue could be realized from non- or out-of-state residents who think the 30 days to license means not me, it must be someone else. Take a drive through the many apartment complexes and notice all of the out of state license plates.

There are many like myself who have retired to the desert for our health and the weather. We are taxpaying citizens. We vote and we spend our money here.
