Murder case figure in trouble

The Clark County district attorney's office is trying to revoke the probation of an 18-year-old Las Vegan who was part of a June 1998 murder case.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Ed Kane said Tony Guerrero has failed to get his general equivalency diploma, isn't working and has failed drug tests.

Guerrero pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and accessory to murder in connection with the June 1998 kidnapping and death of Sam Paterniti, 64.

Guerrero was placed on probation after he agreed to testify against Esteban Hernandez, who police believe stabbed Paterniti 21 times during a robbery in a desert area outside Las Vegas.

Hernandez is serving a 40-year to life sentence after pleading guilty to robbery. He claimed Guerrero killed Paterniti.

District Judge Sally Loehrer is expected to decide Guerrero's fate Monday.

Man pleads guilty in holdup

A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to an attempted pizza parlor robbery that left his partner in crime dead.

Nolan Narsha Kyle pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted robbery and faces between one and 10 years in prison when he is sentenced by District Judge Donald Mosley on June 28.

According to police, Kyle and Gregory Floyd, 16, entered a Tropicana pizza restaurant on Oct. 16, 1998, in the hopes of robbing it. The restaurant owner, however, pulled a gun and shot Floyd after he went behind the counter. Kyle, who was the look-out man, later surrendered to police and was booked on murder, robbery and burglary charges.

Trial postponed on 13 counts

The trial of a former Clark County building inspector suspected of falsifying inspection records has been postponed until August.

Marcus Durwoood McAnally was originally set for trial Monday on 13 counts of falsifying inspection records, but District Judge John McGroarty agreed to reschedule the trial Tuesday to Aug. 21.

Police suspect McAnally, 46, of creating false documents approving construction projects.

The charges involve inspections at four hotel-casinos, including the former Sands, Bally's, Harrah's and the Tropicana. Other charges involve a slab inspection on a Homestead Road house owned by McAnally's father and a plumbing inspection on a Russell Road building.
