Demos hold edge in voter registration

CARSON CITY -- Democrats continue to hold the lead in voter registration but Republicans have narrowed the gap somewhat.
Secretary of State Dean Heller reported Tuesday 918,000 voters were signed up at the end of April, with Democrats numbering 381,440 and Republicans 378,754. That's a 2,686 edge for Democrats, slightly less than the 2,895 margin at the end of March.
Nonpartisan voters totaled 130,535; Libertarians, 5,177; Green, 995; Independent American, 17,639; Natural Law, 718; Reform, 693 and other parties, 2,049.
In Congressional District 1, which includes Las Vegas and some adjacent areas, there were 183,621 Democrats and 138,241 Republicans with 56,070 nonpartisan; 2,160 Libertarian; 349 Green; 7,676 Independent American; 363 Natural Law; 342 Reform and 2,049 in other parties.
Republicans outnumber Democrats in Congressional District 2, which includes all of Northern Nevada and parts of Clark County. The GOP has 240,513 in this district compared with 197,819 Democrats; 74,465 nonpartisan; 3,017 Libertarian; 646 Green; 9,964 Independent American; 355 Natural Law; 351 Reform and 1,390 other parties.
