Tuesday, May 16, 2000 | 9:43 a.m.

Two UNLV students are headed for Washington, D.C., to work a semester as interns in Sen. Harry Reid's office.

Sarah Harris and Tamara Jankovic are the first recipients of the newly created Harry Reid-Hank Greenspun Capitol Hill Communication Internship through UNLV's Greenspun College of Urban Affairs.

The internship is a merit-based program that provides students hands-on exposure to political communications. Selected students work a semester for Reid, D-Nev., and will be responsible for writing and editing press releases, planning and executing media events and creating and updating material for the senator's website.

Harris, a communications major with a minor in Spanish, will begin her internship this fall. Harris has worked as writer and editor for UNLV's Rebel Yell newspaper and has written for the Spokesman Review newspaper in Spokane, Wash.

Jankovic, a native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, has lived in the United States since she was 15 years old. She speaks several languages and is a member of the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Honor Society. Her internship will be in spring 2001.
