Trial of alleged motorcyclist murderer to begin in March

Tuesday, May 16, 2000 | 10:52 a.m.

The trial of Bobby Stroup, 54, will come nearly a decade after the killings of Daniel Rasmussen, 35, and Jack Strawbridge, 28.

The men's bullet-riddled bodies were found Oct. 14, 1991 along the Mount Rose Highway.

Stroup is charged with open murder.

Stroup's son, Roger Stroup, previously was charged with kidnapping the men and killing them. A jury convicted him in the kidnappings but acquitted him of murder. He was sentenced to four life sentences with possible parole after 40 years.

The elder Stroup was twice tried in California on attempted murder charges, but both trials resulted in hung juries. Authorities there have decided not to try him a third time.

Those proceedings delayed his extradition to Reno on the murder charges here.
