Steve Lawrence says he was a little nervous sticking his hands in cement, knowing the colorful history of this gambling mecca.
"How things have changed," Lawrence quipped at a ceremony honoring him and his wife Eydie Gorme. "In another time the cement would have been for the Gambino family."
The Emmy and Grammy award-winning couple joked Monday night as they left their handprints in a cement plaque to be mounted at Planet Hollywood as part of a wall honoring various Las Vegas celebrities.
"We're not the first Las Vegas people to be put in cement are we?" Lawrence asked.
Gorme pressed her fingers into the setting cement, then joked, "My manicurist will be thrilled by this."
The famous couple first appeared as "Steve & Eydie" on Oct. 6, 1960 as part of the original cast of "The Tonight Show" starring Steve Allen. They have released more than 100 records.
Residents of Las Vegas, they are headlining at Caesars Palace May 18-21.
