LV Internet developer closes

Tuesday, May 16, 2000 | 10:50 a.m.

A 10-month-old Las Vegas company that developed Internet sites and hosted companies on the Internet has closed its doors.

Pageriver.com, 4206 W. Charleston Blvd., signed up customers and maintained sites for customers nationwide for $30 a month.

The company's office is closed and its phone disconnected. Neighboring businesses said company officials left the building two months ago.

Out-of-state businesses that have contracted with Pageriver.com to maintain Internet sites say the biggest problem with the company's sudden disappearance is that it registered and holds domain names for its customers. That means a company that wants to take its domain name to another Internet host can't do it.

Gary Link, who runs a pet-sitting service in Florida, said that's costing his business because his registered domain name is being seen by potential customers on search engines and in advertising, but they can't reach the site.

"When they can't access the site, they assume I'm out of business," Link said.

The Better Business Bureau of Southern Nevada said Pageriver.com, which opened in July and became affiliated with the agency in January, has had five consumer complaints since February.
