Letter: Lobbyists true movers, shakers

Tuesday, May 16, 2000 | 9:19 a.m.

I consider Tim Russert the best. This is because he appears unbiased and treats all parties equally. His comments on the "Today" show and other NBC broadcasts are great analyses of the political news of the day.

The Russert commentaries are in sharp contrast to those of Bob Novak's persistent pro-rich, pro-Republican comments. No. 2 among political reporters is David Broder.

Incidentally, the politicians are important in legislating important laws affecting everyone's lives. Too bad that too many of them are on the payrolls of the NRA, the tobacco industry and the nuclear power industry.

The unfortunate fact of life is that the legislators are not the important movers of legislation. The lobbyists for the special interests have grabbed this role both in the Congress and the Nevada Legislature.
