LV firm says its name is tied to Internet pornography sales

Friday, May 12, 2000 | 11:11 a.m.

Gamblers Book Club/CBC Press Inc. of Las Vegas doing business as Gamblers Book Shop is seeking an injunction to stop Save Inc. and its owner from using Gamblers Book's federally registered trademark and domain name to sell pornographic videos on the Internet.

In a U.S. District Court suit, Gamblers Book alleged Save and its owner Ernest Lunati operate a website "gamblersbookclub.com" that initially sold "outdated and inferior gambling software" and later, pornographic videos.

Gamblers Book, which publishes books about gaming and retails gaming publications, videos, catalog supplements and software at its Las Vegas store and on its websites "gamblersbook.com" and "lvgamblersbook.com," seeks an order to force the defendants to relinquish their "gamblersbookclub.com" domain name.

Gamblers Book said it first learned of the defendants' pornographic site on May 1 from an article in the English Sports Betting's Racebook Gazette.

The suit quoted the Gazette as saying, "When you go to the Internet website "www.gamblersbookclub.com" you find not the (Gamblers Book Club) site but instead a pornography site featuring among other things, a naked grandmother!!!"

The defendants could not be reached for comment.
