Boulder City skateboard ramps to be moved from one area park to another

Friday, May 12, 2000 | 11:36 a.m.

A series of wooden skateboard ramps assembled in Boulder City's ABC Park will be moved to Veteran's Memorial Park, the Boulder City Council decided this week.

To maintain the equipment's 10-year warranty the contractor will move and reassemble the park for an estimated cost of $7,000, said Roger Hall, director of the Boulder City parks and recreation department.

But the city will rebuild a "less thrilling" skatepark for younger riders at ABC Park farther from residential neighbors concerned about noise issues.

"If we're going to do something for the kids, let's do it right and leave room for expansion," said Councilman Mike Pacini.

Room for creation of BMX bicycle and in-line skating tracks will be reserved at Veteran's Memorial Park.

Mayor Robert Ferraro asked if Veteran's Park is too remote to be properly supervised.

Hall responded the park is developing rapidly and would soon see plenty of adult traffic as well as new pay telephones. "It's not like the days when we had beach volleyball courts and no one went down there," he said.

The council also approved the creation of a technical steering committee to guide the construction of a second municipal golf course. Staff recommendations for appointments will be brought before the council May 23.

To ensure that the city will have access to enough water to support the four proposed golf courses the council approved a contract with Black & Veatch Corp. for a water demand study.
