UNLV signs 7 players for 2000 soccer squad

The UNLV women's soccer team signed seven players to national letters of intent, including two from Las Vegas, coach Dan Abdalla announced Tuesday.
Signing with UNLV to play women's soccer in 2000 were Christy Alatorre, Maia Detmer, Rachael Buscovich, Erin Egerston, Heidi Hart, Tania Lee and Kelly Oshay.
Alatorre and Detmer were teammates at Bishop Gorman High School last season, leading the Gaels to two state titles during their tenure. Alatorre also started at sweeper with the Las Vegas Premier 82 Stars, helping them to four regional appearances and three club state titles. She was a five-year participant and captain in the Olympic Development Program.
Detmer is the younger sister of former Rebel star Phil Detmer and will strengthen the center-midfield line. She was also an ODP participant and played club soccer with the Jammers, helping them to three straight state championships.
"Maia is a tremendous athlete and has a solid work ethic, which will push her to become a fixture in our lineup," Abdalla said.
The Rebels begin fall practices Aug. 9 and open the 2000 season at Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 25.
