Lawsuit filed over ‘Dr. Naughty’ show

Wednesday, May 10, 2000 | 10:19 a.m.

A former agent of the Dr. Naughty show sued its star and his wife, alleging he was wrongfully discharged after he secured a lounge lease agreement for the show at the Bourbon Street Hotel & Casino.

In a Clark County District Court suit, Robert Whealon alleged Dean Sterling doing business as Dr. Naughty and his wife, Mary Ellen, defrauded him of his agent's fee including 20 percent of gross Dr. Naughty receipts, tape sales, T-shirts, seminar sales and gate receipts.

Whealon, who said he was discharged on Nov. 9, alleged Mary Ellen, the show's accountant, intentionally misrepresented the show's proceeds and headcounts and refused to make accurate reports despite his complaints.

Whealon said Sterling paid him only 15 percent of the show's proceeds in cash a week after the show opened at Bourbon Street on May 26, 1999, and for several weeks thereafter.

Whealon alleged Sterling stopped making payments to him in September and has since appropriated 100 percent of the show's proceeds.

Sterling could not be reached for comment.
