Las Vegas Fire Chief Mario Trevino heads to Dallas this week, moving one step closer to a job heading the nation's fifth-largest fire department. Trevino is one of two finalists vying for the chief's job in Dallas. He will travel to Dallas Thursday and Friday for interviews.
"We've tried to convince him not to go through with it," Human Resources Director Rick Anderson said. "We're still hoping that we're going to be able to keep him here."
Trevino said he has been courted not just by Dallas city officials, but by community leaders there as well.
"It's really flattering that they called me," Trevino said.
But Las Vegas residents have come up with equal praise for Trevino since learning he may leave.
"I've had so much support from this community," Trevino said. "It wouldn't be an easy decision to make."
Trevino has been Las Vegas Fire Chief since 1997. He makes $110,000 annually.
