Councilman to hold series of meetings for Hispanic community
Wednesday, May 10, 2000 | 9:50 a.m.
Las Vegas City Councilman Lawrence Weekly has scheduled three neighborhood meetings designed especially for the city's Hispanic community.
The meetings will focus on safety for family and neighborhood, home maintenance, neighborhood cleanups and programs and assistance offered by the city.
Weekly said the programs are an effort to reach out to the city's growing Spanish-speaking population.
"Las Vegas is growing at a phenomenal pace," Weekly said. "This growth has cultivated a more diverse community, and I believe it is important to not only celebrate that, but to find ways to reach out to hear from each of these groups."
The programs will be conducted mostly in Spanish, but both Spanish and English-language translators will be at the meetings.
The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room of Ruth Fyfe Elementary School, 4101 W. Bonanza Road. Other meetings will be held at 7 p.m., May 18, at the Twin Lakes Elementary School library, 3300 Riverside Drive; and at 7 p.m., June 8, at the Arturo Cambeiro Senior Center, 323 N. Maryland Parkway.
