Letter carriers to pick up donations

The National Association of Letter Carriers is again asking residents to leave canned goods in their mailboxes for the group's annual food drive Saturday.

In its 10th year, the food drive, held the second Saturday in May, provides food to pantries and local shelters across the country.

Residents are asked to leave nonperishable food items, such as canned tuna, peanut butter, macaroni and soups, in or around their mailboxes.

Letter carriers volunteer to pick up the food and haul it back to their offices, where it is sorted and then loaded into trucks heading to different charities.

Last year more than 500,000 pounds of food was collected in the Las Vegas Valley. More than 300 million pounds of food was collected nationally.

Hilltoppers to host event on Saturday

The Henderson Hilltoppers bike club is hosting its annual Round About ride at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.

The noncompetitive ride will cover 34 miles, beginning at the center. Participation is open to intermediate and advanced cyclists of all ages for $10 per person.
