UNLV’s Manley earns player of week honors

Tuesday, May 9, 2000 | 9:34 a.m.

UNLV outfielder Adam Manley, a junior from Tacoma, Wash., was named the McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference baseball player of the week, the league announced Monday.

Manley led the Rebels to a five-game sweep of Air Force at Wilson Stadium this past weekend, going 13-for-20 (.650) with nine RBIs, four home runs and a double. He struck out only once and walked four times.

Manley tied a school record with six hits in the first game of the series, going 6-for-6 with five RBIs, three home runs and a double in the Rebels' 21-6 victory. That game was a continuation of a suspended game from earlier in the season.

The three home runs also tied a Mountain West single game record.

Manley concluded the series with a 2-for-4 day Sunday and hit his eighth home run of the season in a 21-12 win.

The award marks the seventh time this season a UNLV baseball player or pitcher has been so honored. Manley becomes the third position player to win the award, joining Tony DeMarco and Trent Kitsch, who won the award twice.

The five-game winning streak boosted the Rebels' record to 22-30 overall and 12-15 in conference play. They conclude the regular season with a three-game series at San Diego State beginning Friday.

After the regular-season finale, UNLV will host the Mountain West Conference tournament at Wilson Stadium May 17-20.
