Free educational hikes are scheduled
Free educational hikes and walks are offered each week at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Human Family awards ceremony scheduled
An awards ceremony for the 2000 Human Family Essay Contest, sponsored by the National Conference for Community and Justice, the Clark County School District and the International House of Blues, will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday in the Moyer Student Union at UNLV.
More than 400 local children entered. First-place winners in each grade will read their essays. Clark County Commissioner and NCCJ Presiding Chairman Dario Herrera will present the awards.
Stars will host event for Candlelighters
The Las Vegas Stars will host the 10th annual 5K and 1-mile fun run to benefit Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Cashman Field.
The event is in memory of Jared Barney and Jason York, who died of childhood cancer.

E-mail basics
The Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, will present a free program on e-mail basics at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jewel Box Theater. The program is sponsored by the Clark County Library MicroComputer Center. Call 733-1141.
Transportation fair
The Regional Transportation Commission will hold a transportation fair 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria mall, lower court, in Henderson. For more information call the RTC at 676-1500.
Reduced-cost X-rays set for Mother's Day
The American Cancer Society has teamed up with diagnostic facilities throughout the state to offer reduced-cost mammograms for Mother's Day.
The organization states that roughly 1,000 women in Nevada will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 200 Nevada women will die from breast cancer.
For $50, Mom-O-Grams can be purchased and used at 17 diagnostic facilities through April 30, 2001.

Counselors needed
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking applicants interested in spending one week as volunteer counselors at the MDA summer camp June 19-25 in Lake Tahoe. Volunteers will serve as companions to campers ages 6-21. For more information, call 822-6920.
Immunizations
Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week, May 9 - 16:

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 3262 Civic Center Drive, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
EOB NORTH LAS VEGAS WIC: 5A E. Tonopah Ave., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday.
SOUTHEAST CLINIC: 130 N. Pecos Road(St. Thomas More Catholic Church -- Parish Hall), 9 a.m.-noon, Thursday.
DESERT BREEZE CLINIC: 8275 Spring Mountain Road, noon-4 p.m. Friday.
FREMONT MEDICAL CLINIC: 4880 S. Wynn Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Immunizations free to anyone who walks in.
CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER CLINIC: 3827 S. Maryland Parkway, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. May 16.
RAINBOW LIBRARY: 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. May 16.
