Ryann Ferguson, a senior at Green Valley High School, has been named Clark County Student Journalist of the Year.
The award was one of several presented Wednesday to student journalists from across the Las Vegas Valley in the second annual high school journalism competition co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Sun and CLASS!, a newspaper for, by and about high school students.
Ferguson, who plans to attend Rice University in the fall, was chosen on the basis of her writing and interviewing skills, leadership and passion for journalism. She is the editor of her high school newspaper, the InvestiGator.
Other special awards were given to: Principal of the Year -- Barry Gunderson, Las Vegas High School; Adviser of the Year -- Elizabeth Walsh of Palo Verde High; and a special Lifetime Achievement Award -- Judi Hale, who is retiring as journalism adviser after 26 years with Clark High School and six years with the Meadows School.
