DA to retry man for brothel knifing

The White Pine County District Attorney's office refiled the charges last week against Reginaldo Nestor, 41, who was found guilty last month of battery with a deadly weapon, causing substantial bodily harm.
The jury could not determine guilt or innocence on the murder and attempted murder charges.
Nestor was charged with the fatal stabbing of Joseph Bates, 54, of Ely, and the wounding of John Christopher, 55, of Ely.
The victims were stabbed when a fight broke out among them and Nestor and Patricio Osvaldo, 35, inside the Stardust Ranch brothel Aug. 1.
Charges against Osvaldo were dismissed in September, because autopsy results indicated Bates' fatal wound was consistent with the size of knife Nestor carried.
Neither a new trial date nor Nestor's sentencing date for the battery charge has been set. He remains in the White Pine County jail.
