McClenathan leads Top Fuel qualifying

McClenathan had a quarter-mile run of 4.577 seconds at a top of 312.25 mph in his Joe Gibbs-owned MBNA dragster, an Atlanta Dragway record for elapsed time.
Dean Skuza, Warren Johnson, Angelle Seeling and Bob Panella also led their divisions in the $1.7 million competition, the seventh of 23 events in the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.
Skuza topped Funny Car qualifying with a run of 4.860 seconds at 312.06 mph. Johnson, the five-time series champion, led Pro Stock with a pass of 6.907 seconds at 200.14 mph.
Seeling powered her Pro Stock Motorcycle to a run of 7.234 seconds at 183.79 mph, and Panella led the Pro Stock Trucks with a pass of 7.525 seconds at 180.09 mph.
Final eliminations are Sunday.
