Grand jury will examine local government

Clerk-Treasurer Barbara Reed said she got the order Thursday to begin selecting potential jurors. The first group of 50 possible jurors probably won't be selected for a few weeks, she said.
Possible jurors will be pulled from the county's 2000 jury pool, which includes registered voters and licensed drivers.
Reed said she expects to solicit three groups of 50 candidates to find 36 prospective jurors.
Their names then will be sent to the judges, who will canvass them and decide who to impanel. A total of 17 people, plus a few alternates, will be chosen.
District Judges Dave Gamble and Michael Gibbons have said they see the jury as an opportunity to check up on local government - not a response to any suspected wrongdoing.
