Letter: Handicapped not all in wheelchairs
Friday, May 5, 2000 | 10:14 a.m.
In response to Bill Constantine's April 28 letter, "Handicap signs improperly used": wake up and smell the roses.
A person cannot simply go to the DMV and "buy" a permit. A physician MUST sign the appropriate form for an individual. How dumb can you be, Bill? Not all handicapped persons need the aid of a wheelchair, as you suggest.
My husband and I are both still hard-working people, not rich as you have suggested, and our cars are seven years old. We are both still alive after suffering heart attacks and subsequent surgery. I have shortness of breath and cannot walk far, especially carrying heavy bags of groceries, and my husband has circulation problems with his legs.
Just remember Bill, not every person with a handicapped permit is crippled. And who made you God to say that only those in wheelchairs should be able to use those spaces?
Watch your words Bill -- one of these days, you might be joining the group as one of "those" people.
