United Airlines using bigger plans on Reno-Denver route

Thursday, May 4, 2000 | 2:29 a.m.

The larger, quieter Boeing 757 aircraft will replace the older 727s, adding 83 seats a day into Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

In addition, United Airlines is adding a new Saturday-only shuttle from Reno to San Francisco.

It marks a 29 percent increase in seat capacity from Denver, Airport Authority Director Krys Bart said.

It's welcome news for Reno after American Airlines announced it intends to drop more than two dozen flights in Nevada this summer, including 17 to Reno-Tahoe. American has no flights from Reno to Denver.

"This proves that a full-service carrier can do well in what has been considered to be a leisure market," Bart said.

United Airlines is the airport's third largest carrier with nine daily flights. In addition to the two to Denver, United flys three times a day to Los Angeles and four times to San Francisco.
